What grading scale is used for letter grades?
The standard scale assigns A for 90–100%, B for 80–89%, C for 70–79%, D for 60–69%, and F for anything below 60%. You can switch to a strict or easy grading scale using the Grading Scale dropdown to match your school's policy.
What is the Full Grade Chart?
The Full Grade Chart lists every possible number of wrong answers from 0 up to the total questions, showing the resulting percentage and letter grade for each. This lets teachers quickly look up a score for any student without re-entering data.
Can I use this tool for quizzes with half-point questions?
Yes — enable the 'Allow Half Points' toggle. This allows scores to be calculated using 0.5-point increments, which is useful when partial credit is awarded or when questions carry fractional point values. You might also find our Curved Grade — Grade Curve useful.
What is the maximum number of questions supported?
The Easy Grader supports tests with up to 500 questions, covering everything from short 5-question quizzes to large final exams.
Does entering more wrong answers than total questions cause an error?
Yes — the number of wrong answers cannot exceed the total number of questions. The calculator will flag this as invalid input and prompt you to correct the values before displaying a result.
How is the letter grade with plus and minus determined?
Letter grades with plus/minus are assigned based on where your percentage falls within each grade band. For example, under the standard scale, 97–100% is an A+, 93–96% is an A, and 90–92% is an A−. Each band is split into three roughly equal parts.
Can I change the grading thresholds for each letter grade?
You can choose from three preset grading scales — Standard, Strict, and Easy — using the Grading Scale selector. Each preset shifts the cutoff points for A, B, C, D, and F grades to match common school policies.
