A cord of wood is a standardized unit of volume used to measure stacked firewood. One full cord measures 8 feet long × 4 feet wide × 4 feet high, giving a total volume of 128 cubic feet (approximately 3.62 cubic meters). Multiply the length, width, and height of your woodpile in feet to get the total cubic footage, then divide by 128. For example, a pile that is 16 ft × 4 ft × 4 ft = 256 cubic feet ÷ 128 = 2 cords. This calculator does that math automatically once you enter your dimensions.
A face cord (sometimes called a rick) is one-third of a full cord. It has the same 8-foot length and 4-foot height as a full cord, but only about 16 inches (roughly 1⅓ feet) of depth — matching a typical firewood log length. Three face cords stacked together make one full cord.

A cord of green (freshly cut) hardwood like oak can weigh between 4,000 and 5,000 lbs, while seasoned (dried) hardwood typically weighs 2,000–3,500 lbs.
