A dilution ratio expresses how much concentrate (solute) is mixed with how much solvent (usually water) to create a solution. For example, a 1:10 ratio means 1 part concentrate to 10 parts water, giving a total of 11 parts solution. It is commonly used for cleaning products, chemicals, and detailing solutions. To calculate the volumes needed, divide your total desired volume by the sum of the ratio parts. For a 1:10 ratio and 1100 ml total: concentrate = 1100 ÷ (1+10) = 100 ml, and water = 100 × 10 = 1000 ml. This calculator does all of that automatically.
The solute (concentrate) volume formula is: Solute Volume = Total Volume ÷ (Concentrate Part + Solvent Part). For example, for a 1:5 dilution with 600 ml total: Solute Volume = 600 ÷ (1+5) = 100 ml, and Water = 500 ml.
