The calculator estimates the total number of games in your tournament based on format (single or double elimination) and the number of teams. It then multiplies games × cups per rack × 2 sides × ounces per cup to get total ounces needed, then converts that into cans and cases based on your can size and case size.
A standard game uses 10 cups per side (20 total per game), arranged in a 4-3-2-1 triangle. Some house rules use 6 or 15 cups — you can adjust this in the calculator using the 'Cups Per Rack' setting.
The standard fill is about 2 to 3 oz per cup, which keeps the game going at a fun pace without players getting too drunk too quickly. For a 10-cup rack filled at 3 oz each, one side uses about one full beer per rack.
In a single elimination tournament with N teams, there are exactly N-1 total games played. So 8 teams = 7 games, 16 teams = 15 games, and so on. Double elimination roughly doubles the number of games.
That depends on how many cups they sink and how many they drink. On average in a standard 10-cup game, each player drinks around 3–5 cups worth of beer per game. This calculator shows estimated drinks per player based on total beer consumed divided by number of players.
The elbow rule (sometimes called the wrist rule) states that your elbow or wrist must not cross over the edge of the table when you shoot. If it does, the shot doesn't count even if it goes in. This is one of the most commonly enforced house rules in competitive play.
If both teams sink the last cup on the same turn (rebuttal), the game goes to overtime. Each team re-racks 3 cups and play continues. Some house rules use sudden death with a single cup per side in overtime.
