Party Drink Calculator

The calculator uses standard drink-consumption rates: light drinkers average about 1 drink per 2 hours, average drinkers have roughly 1 drink per hour, and heavy (thirsty) drinkers consume about 2 drinks per hour. It multiplies each group's rate by the party duration to get total drinks, then splits them proportionally across beer, wine, and liquor based on which options you selected. One standard drink is defined as 12 oz of regular beer (5% ABV), 5 oz of wine (12% ABV), or 1.5 oz of liquor/spirits (40% ABV). All three contain roughly the same amount of pure alcohol.

A standard 750 ml wine bottle contains approximately 5 glasses of wine (at 5 oz per pour). The calculator uses this conversion when estimating how many bottles you need to buy.

A standard 750 ml bottle of spirits yields approximately 16–17 cocktails at 1.5 oz per serving. The calculator uses 16 drinks per bottle as its baseline when computing liquor quantities. You might also find our Homebrew OG/FG Calculator useful.

It's generally a good idea to add a 10–15% buffer to your totals, especially for large parties or events where you're uncertain about guest preferences. Running out of drinks mid-party is far worse than having a few leftovers.

The calculator splits drinks evenly across the selected beverage types by default. If you know your crowd heavily prefers beer over wine, deselect the wine and liquor options so the full quantity is attributed to beer, then manually adjust as needed.

This calculator focuses on alcoholic beverages only. As a general rule of thumb, always have at least one non-alcoholic option available — plan for about 1–2 non-alcoholic drinks per guest per hour, especially for longer events or when children may be present.

A standard case of beer contains 24 cans or bottles. The calculator converts the total cans needed into cases so you can purchase whole units at the store. Always round up to the nearest case to ensure you don't run short.
