Frequently Asked Questions

How is the priority score calculated?

The priority score combines three factors: days remaining until the due date (urgency), the assignment's grade weight (importance), and its difficulty level. Assignments that are due soon, worth more marks, and harder to complete receive a higher priority score. The formula weighs urgency most heavily so time-sensitive tasks always surface first.

How many assignments can I rank at once?

The calculator supports up to five assignments at a time. You only need to fill in the first assignment — the remaining four are optional. Simply leave any unused assignment fields blank and the calculator will rank only the ones you've entered.

What does the urgency rating mean?

The urgency rating tells you how many days remain until each assignment's due date. Assignments due within 3 days are marked Critical, within 7 days are High, within 14 days are Medium, and anything beyond 14 days is Low urgency. This helps you spot deadlines that are creeping up faster than you might expect.

Should I always work on the highest-priority assignment first?

Generally yes, but use the score as a guide rather than a rigid rule. If two assignments have similar scores, consider your energy levels and which task benefits most from an early start. The calculator is designed to support your planning, not replace your judgement.

How does grade weight affect the priority score?

Grade weight reflects how much an assignment contributes to your final grade. A 40% final exam will score significantly higher than a 5% weekly quiz, even if both have the same due date and difficulty. Prioritising high-weight tasks protects your GPA more effectively.

Does difficulty level really change my priority ranking?

Yes. A 'Very Hard' assignment needs more preparation time than an easy one, so difficulty adds to the priority score to account for the extra effort required. Two assignments due on the same day with the same weight will rank differently if one is much harder than the other.

What if two assignments are due on the same day?

When due dates are identical, the calculator uses grade weight and difficulty to break the tie. The heavier and harder assignment will receive a higher priority score and appear above the other in the ranked list, helping you decide which to tackle first.

Can I use this calculator for non-academic tasks?

Absolutely. The same logic applies to any deadline-driven tasks — work projects, personal goals, or freelance deliverables. Just enter the task name, deadline, importance percentage, and estimated difficulty, and the calculator will rank them for you.
