Class Average Calculator

Enter your students' scores into the Class Average Calculator to compute the mean, median, and mode of your class. Paste up to 30 scores in the scores input field (comma-separated), and instantly see a full statistical breakdown — including the highest score, lowest score, and standard deviation. Perfect for teachers grading tests, quizzes, or assignments.

Enter scores separated by commas or spaces. Values should be between 0 and 100.

Used to display percentage averages. Default is 100.

Scores at or above this value are considered passing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the class average calculated?

The class average (mean) is calculated by adding all student scores together and dividing by the total number of students. For example, if 5 students scored 70, 80, 85, 90, and 75, the mean is (70+80+85+90+75) ÷ 5 = 80.

What is the difference between mean, median, and mode?

The mean is the sum of all scores divided by the number of scores. The median is the middle value when scores are sorted in order. The mode is the score that appears most frequently. Each measure gives a different perspective on your class's performance.

How do I enter scores into the calculator?

Type or paste your scores into the 'Student Scores' field, separating each value with a comma or a space. For example: 85, 90, 72, 68, 95. You can enter as many scores as needed.

What does standard deviation tell me about my class?

Standard deviation measures how spread out the scores are around the mean. A low standard deviation means most students scored similarly. A high standard deviation indicates a wide range of performance, which may suggest some students need extra support.

Can I use this calculator for weighted scores?

This calculator computes a simple (unweighted) average. If your assignments have different weights, you would need to manually adjust the scores before entering them, or use a dedicated weighted grade calculator.

What happens if multiple scores tie for the mode?

If two or more scores appear equally frequently and are the most common, the calculator will display the lowest of those tied values as the mode. In a truly multimodal dataset you may want to review the full score table for all repeated values.

How is the pass/fail count determined?

The calculator compares each student's score against the 'Passing Score' you enter. Any score at or above that threshold is counted as passing; scores below it are counted as failing.

What grade letter corresponds to a given score?

The calculator uses a standard grading scale: 90–100 = A, 80–89 = B, 70–79 = C, 60–69 = D, and below 60 = F. These grades are shown in the score breakdown table alongside each student's result.
