AADSAS uses a standardized 4.0 scale and converts all letter grades using a fixed conversion table — for example, A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, and so on. Unlike some universities that drop minus grades or use different scales, AADSAS applies the same conversion to every applicant. This ensures dental schools can compare applicants from different institutions on equal footing.

Yes. AADSAS includes all attempts at all courses in GPA calculations, including repeated coursework. Both the original grade and the repeated grade are factored in — AADSAS does not allow grade replacement. This means retaking a course you failed will help raise your GPA but will not erase the original grade.

Most accredited dental schools look for a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, with competitive applicants typically averaging around 3.5 or above. Science GPA is weighted heavily, and top programs often see accepted students with science GPAs of 3.4–3.6+. Requirements vary by school, so always check each program's published averages.

AADSAS Science GPA includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math courses (often referred to as BCPM or BCP). This encompasses courses like General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Statistics. Courses in other disciplines — such as English, History, or Psychology — are counted in the Non-Science GPA.

No. AP (Advanced Placement), IB (International Baccalaureate), and Pass/Fail (P/N) course types are not included in AADSAS GPA calculations. Similarly, courses with a grade of W (Withdrawal) are excluded. Only courses with earned letter grades from accredited post-secondary institutions are factored in.

AADSAS calculates several distinct GPA values for dental school applicants, including Overall GPA, Science (BCP) GPA, Non-Science GPA, and year-by-year breakdowns (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior GPAs). Many dental schools focus primarily on the Cumulative and Science GPAs during initial application screening.

However, your official AADSAS GPA is calculated by Liaison using transcripts from every institution you attended. Minor differences may occur if you have transfer credits, courses from multiple schools, or non-standard grading systems.
