Frequently Asked Questions

How is the completion rate calculated?

The completion rate is calculated by dividing the number of completed assignments by the total number of assignments, then multiplying by 100. For example, if you have completed 6 out of 10 assignments, your completion rate is 60%. Assignments in progress are counted separately and not included in the completed tally.

What does 'average time per assignment' mean?

Average time per assignment is your total hours spent so far divided by the number of assignments you have completed. It gives you a realistic estimate of how long each remaining assignment is likely to take, helping you plan your schedule more accurately.

How is the estimated hours remaining calculated?

The calculator uses your average time per completed assignment and multiplies it by the number of assignments still remaining (total minus completed minus in-progress). This gives you a realistic projection of the work still ahead based on your own pace.

What is the 'daily hours needed to finish' figure?

This figure divides your estimated remaining hours by the number of days left until your deadline. It tells you how many hours you need to study each day on average to complete all remaining assignments on time. If this number feels too high, consider increasing your daily study target or prioritising the most urgent tasks.

Should I count assignments that are in progress as completed?

No — assignments in progress should be entered in the 'Assignments In Progress' field, not the 'Assignments Completed' field. The calculator treats in-progress work separately so your completion rate accurately reflects what is fully done.

How does assignment type affect my tracking?

The assignment type field (Essay, Report, Oral Presentation, etc.) helps you categorise your workload. Different assignment types typically require different amounts of preparation time — for instance, a dissertation requires much more time than a general homework task. Use this field to get a realistic sense of your overall workload.

Can I use this calculator if I have multiple subjects?

Yes — enter the total assignments and hours across all your subjects combined, and specify how many subjects you are tracking. The calculator will estimate an average time per subject, giving you a per-course breakdown to help you allocate your study time evenly.

What if I have no deadline set yet?

If you do not have a specific deadline, simply leave the 'Days Until Deadline' field blank or enter a placeholder value. The calculator will still show your completion rate, average time per assignment, and estimated hours remaining — the daily hours needed figure will not appear without a deadline.
