Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the percentile prediction?

The percentile estimate is based on historical NEET score distributions and the approximate number of candidates who appear each year (around 20 lakh+). It gives a reliable ballpark figure, but the actual percentile depends on the difficulty of the paper and the performance of all candidates in that specific exam year. Use it for planning, not as a definitive figure.

What is the official NEET marking scheme?

The official NTA NEET marking scheme awards +4 marks for every correct answer and deducts -1 mark for every incorrect answer. Unattempted questions carry 0 marks. The total exam consists of 180 questions worth a maximum of 720 marks across Physics (45 Qs), Chemistry (45 Qs), and Biology (90 Qs).

Can I use this calculator before the exam for target setting?

Yes — this is one of the best uses of the calculator. Enter target correct and incorrect answers for each subject to see what score that would produce. Work backwards from your target college's cutoff to understand how many questions you need to get right.

What if I'm not sure about some of my answers?

Only enter answers you are reasonably confident about in the correct or incorrect fields. Answers you are unsure of should be left as unattempted (neither correct nor incorrect), as they score 0 rather than losing you a mark. This gives you a conservative but realistic score estimate.

What's the custom marking scheme option for?

The custom marking scheme lets you simulate scores for mock tests, coaching institute tests, or previous years' papers that may use a different marks-per-question format. Simply set your own positive marks for correct answers and negative marks for incorrect ones.

What NEET score is needed for government MBBS admission?

For general category candidates, a score above 550–600 is typically competitive for government medical colleges, though cutoffs vary by state and college. Top AIIMS/JIPMER institutions may require scores of 650+. OBC/SC/ST categories have lower cutoffs. Always check the official NTA and MCC counselling cutoff lists for your specific category.

Does this calculator work for NEET 2024 and previous years?

Yes. Since the official marking scheme (+4/-1) and question distribution (Physics: 45, Chemistry: 45, Biology: 90) have been consistent across recent NEET exams, this calculator works accurately for 2024 and previous years. If a specific year had a different scheme, use the custom marking option.

How is the NEET Biology section structured?

The Biology section has 90 questions in total, split equally between Botany (45 questions) and Zoology (45 questions). Each correct answer gives +4 marks, making Biology worth 360 marks out of the total 720 — making it the highest-weightage section in NEET.
