A round face has roughly equal width and length with soft, curved edges and fuller cheeks. An oval face is slightly longer than it is wide, with the cheekbones as the widest point and a gently tapering jawline. Oval is often considered a more elongated version of round.

A square face has a strong, angular jawline with similar measurements across the forehead, cheeks, and jaw, making it roughly as wide as it is long. An oblong (or rectangle) face shares that angular jaw and similar widths, but is noticeably longer than it is wide, giving a more elongated appearance.
