Decathlon Calculator

Enter your performance in each of the 10 decathlon events and get your total points score using the official IAAF scoring tables. Input results for 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m — the calculator converts each mark into points and sums them up. Day 1 and Day 2 subtotals are shown alongside your total decathlon score.

Frequently Asked Questions

What scoring tables does this decathlon calculator use?

This calculator uses the official IAAF (World Athletics) scoring tables for men's decathlon. The formulas follow the standard A, B, and C constants for each event, categorised as either track events (running) or field events (jumps and throws). These are the same tables used at Olympic and World Championship competitions.

How do I enter my 1500m time?

Enter your 1500m time as total seconds. For example, a time of 4 minutes 30 seconds should be entered as 270. To convert: multiply minutes by 60 and add the remaining seconds.

What units should I use for jumps and throws?

Long jump, high jump, and pole vault should be entered in centimetres (e.g. 680 cm for a 6.80m long jump). Shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw should be entered in metres (e.g. 14.50 m).

What does manual timing mean for running events?

Manual (hand) timing is slightly less accurate than fully automatic timing (FAT) and typically adds around 0.24 seconds to sprints and hurdle events for official conversion. When the manual timing checkbox is ticked, the calculator applies the standard IAAF adjustment to convert the hand-timed performance to an equivalent automatic time before scoring.

What is a good decathlon score?

A score of 6,000 points is a solid club-level performance. Reaching 7,000 points indicates a strong national-level competitor, while 8,000+ points represents elite international standard. The world record stands at 9,126 points set by Kevin Mayer in 2018.

How is the decathlon score calculated?

Each event uses an official formula: for track events, Points = A × (B − P)^C, where P is the performance; for field events, Points = A × (P − B)^C. A, B, and C are constants specific to each event defined by World Athletics. Only whole (integer) points are awarded per event, and all 10 events are summed for the total.

Can I use this calculator to work backwards — find the result needed for a target score?

This version calculates points from results. To estimate the result needed for a specific points target in an event, you can rearrange the scoring formula. Many athletes use this approach to plan training targets for each discipline.

What are the 10 decathlon events and their order?

Day 1 (in order): 100m, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 400m. Day 2 (in order): 110m Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw, 1500m. Athletes compete in all events over two consecutive days.
