Fantasy points are a scoring system that translates real NFL player statistics into numerical values used in fantasy football leagues. Each yard gained, touchdown scored, or reception made earns a player a set number of points, allowing fantasy managers to compete based on their players' actual game performances.
In most leagues, quarterbacks earn 1 point per 25 passing yards and 4 points per passing touchdown. Interceptions typically cost -2 points. Some leagues award 6 points per passing TD instead of 4, so always check your league's specific settings.
The difference lies in how receptions are scored. Standard scoring awards 0 points per reception, Half-PPR gives 0.5 points per catch, and PPR (Points Per Reception) awards 1 full point for each reception. This significantly boosts the value of pass-catching running backs and slot receivers in PPR formats.
Rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth 6 points each in virtually all fantasy football formats. This is consistent across Standard, Half-PPR, and PPR leagues. Two-point conversions add 2 extra points when a player scores on the conversion attempt.
A fumble lost typically costs a player -2 points in most fantasy leagues. Some leagues penalize all fumbles (regardless of whether they were lost), so make sure to verify your league's rules. Protecting the ball is just as important as gaining yards in fantasy football.
A 300-yard passing performance earns 12 points at the standard rate of 1 point per 25 yards. Many leagues also award a bonus of 2–3 points for hitting the 300-yard threshold, though this calculator uses the base rate. Add in touchdowns and those totals climb fast.
Wide receivers and pass-catching running backs benefit the most from PPR scoring because their value is tied directly to reception volume. A running back with 8 catches in a game earns 8 bonus points in full PPR, which can make them more valuable than a traditional bell-cow back with no catches.
