Playoff Bracket Generator

Build your Playoff Bracket Generator by entering the number of teams, choosing your bracket format (Single or Double Elimination), and adding team names. Get a fully structured bracket draw showing matchups round by round, plus a round count and total games breakdown — perfect for tournaments of 4 to 64 teams.

Enter between 2 and 64 teams. Byes are added automatically for non-power-of-2 counts.

Each matchup is played twice — once at each team's home.

The final match is played as a home-and-away two-legged tie.

Optional: enter team names to seed the bracket. Leave blank to use Team 1, Team 2, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many teams can I include in the bracket?

This generator supports brackets from 2 up to 64 teams. If your team count is not a power of 2 (e.g. 4, 8, 16, 32), the tool automatically adds 'bye' slots so the bracket structure remains valid. Byes mean certain teams advance to the next round without playing.

What is the difference between Single and Double Elimination?

In Single Elimination, a team is immediately out after one loss. In Double Elimination, teams move to a losers' bracket after their first defeat and must lose twice to be eliminated. Double elimination gives every team a second chance but roughly doubles the total number of games.

What is a consolation or third-place match?

A consolation match — often called the third-place playoff — is an optional extra game between the two semifinal losers. It determines which team finishes in third place. You can enable it by selecting 'Third Place Match' in the bracket settings.

What are two-legged ties?

Two-legged ties mean each matchup is played twice — once at each team's venue. The winner is determined by aggregate score across both legs. This format is common in UEFA competitions and domestic cup tournaments. You can also opt for a two-legged final only.

How is the total number of games calculated?

For Single Elimination, the total games equal the bracket size minus 1 (every game eliminates exactly one team). For Double Elimination, it is approximately 2× (bracket size − 1), accounting for the losers' bracket and a potential grand final rematch. Two-legged options double the game count for all or just the final round.

What happens if my team count is not a power of 2?

The generator rounds up to the next power of 2 and fills the gap with 'bye' entries. Teams assigned a bye in Round 1 automatically advance to Round 2 without playing. Seeding determines which teams receive byes — typically the top-seeded teams.

Can I name my teams in the bracket?

Yes — paste or type one team name per line in the Team Names field. The generator will seed the bracket in the order you enter them. If you leave the field blank, teams are labelled Team 1, Team 2, and so on by default.

How many rounds will my tournament have?

The number of rounds equals the base-2 logarithm of the bracket size. For example, 8 teams → 3 rounds; 16 teams → 4 rounds; 32 teams → 5 rounds. Double elimination adds a losers' bracket path roughly doubling the maximum rounds a team can play.
