Frequently Asked Questions

What is Points Per Game (PPG)?

Points Per Game (PPG) is a statistical average that measures how many points a player, team, or unit scores per game played. It is one of the most common metrics used in sports like basketball, football, hockey, and baseball to evaluate scoring performance over a season or period.

How do you calculate Points Per Game?

The formula is simple: PPG = Total Points ÷ Games Played. For example, if a basketball player scores 520 points across 20 games, their PPG is 520 ÷ 20 = 26.0. This calculator does the math automatically as soon as you enter your values.

How do I find out how many total points I need to hit a target PPG?

Switch the 'Solve For' dropdown to 'Total Points', then enter your Target PPG and the number of Games Played. The calculator will multiply the two values to tell you exactly how many total points are required to achieve that average.

What is a good PPG average in basketball?

In the NBA, a PPG of 20 or more is generally considered elite for an individual player. Most starters average between 10–20 PPG, while role players often fall below 10. For teams, an average above 110 points per game is competitive in the modern NBA.

Can I use this calculator for team points, not just individual players?

Absolutely. The calculator works for any scenario where you're dividing total points by games played — whether that's an individual player's scoring average, a team's offensive output, or any sport's league standings metric.

How does the season projection feature work?

Enter the total number of games in the season (or pick a sport preset) and the calculator will project how many total points will be scored by end of season if the current PPG pace is maintained. It simply multiplies your current PPG by the total season games.

What sports can I use this calculator for?

This calculator works for any sport that tracks points: basketball (NBA, WNBA, college), football (NFL), hockey (NHL), soccer, baseball, and more. Use the sport preset dropdown to automatically set the correct season game total, or enter a custom value.

How many decimal places should I use for PPG?

Most sports use one or two decimal places for PPG. For example, an NBA box score might show 26.4 PPG. This calculator defaults to two decimal places for precision, which is suitable for detailed analysis or comparing close averages.
