Frequently Asked Questions

How is age in months calculated?

Age in months is calculated by counting the total number of complete calendar months between the date of birth and the target date. For example, if someone was born on March 15 and today is January 15 of the following year, they are exactly 10 months old. Partial months are counted separately as remaining days.

Why would I need to know my age in months?

Age in months is most commonly used to track infant and toddler development, since pediatric growth charts and developmental milestones are measured in months up to around age 2–3. It's also useful for numerology, astrological calculations, medical records, and legal contexts that require precise age.

How old is a 1-year-old in months?

A child who has just turned 1 year old is exactly 12 months old. Every additional year adds 12 more months, so a 2-year-old is 24 months, a 3-year-old is 36 months, and so on.

What is the difference between total months and remaining months?

Total months is the complete count of months from birth to today — for example, 26 months. Remaining months (shown as 'Months after years') is the leftover months once full years are subtracted — so 26 total months equals 2 years and 2 remaining months.

Can I calculate how old someone will be on a future date?

Yes! Simply enter the person's date of birth and set the 'Calculate Age As Of' field to any future date. The calculator will show their exact age in months, years, and days on that future date.

How do I calculate my baby's age in months?

Enter your baby's birth date in the 'Date of Birth' field and leave the 'As Of' date blank to use today. The calculator instantly shows your baby's exact age in total months, plus the breakdown in years, months, and days.

Does this calculator account for leap years?

Yes. The calculator works with actual calendar dates, so leap years (with their extra day in February) are handled automatically and correctly in all total day and week calculations.

What day of the week was I born?

While this calculator focuses on age in months, the underlying date math is based on your exact birth date. To find your birth weekday, take note of the date you entered — most calendar apps or a quick search will tell you which day of the week that date fell on.
