How do I convert microwave cooking times between wattages?

The formula is: New Time = Original Time × (Original Wattage ÷ Your Wattage). If your microwave is higher wattage than the recipe, you need less time; if it's lower wattage, you need more time. Our calculator does this math for you automatically.

How do I find my microwave's wattage?

Check the label on the inside of the microwave door, the back panel, or the user manual. Most modern home microwaves range from 700 W to 1200 W. If you can't find it, you can run a water-boil test: time how long it takes to boil 1 cup of cold water — under 2 minutes suggests ~1000 W or more.

Is a higher wattage microwave better?
